Gaming PC without the best graphics card is worthless. We won’t be able to play our favorite games with it. right?
I am damn sure most of you have an idea about the gaming GPU. Hardcore gamers know the worth of a graphics card. Especially the latest high-resolution games have high requirements. To meet those requirements you need a strong built gaming PC with the best performance gaming graphics card in combination with other essential hardware units.
For those who don’t know, let me give you a quick overview.
Graphics processing unit is installed on the chipset on the mainboard of a gaming PC rig. Its function is to render images, animations, and videos on the screen of a computer.
Now that you have the basic concept of graphics cards. let’s proceed further to let you have a clear vision of the best graphics card.
Note: The best gaming GPU is not just important for gaming. In fact, the best CPU, RAM and the best hard drive are also important in order to achieve the ultimate gaming experience. The long-lasting storage for your PC also matters. Moreover, these days the best hard drive is also an essential part of gaming consoles.
Best Graphics Card In 2019
For most of the gamers, it isn’t that easy to choose the best graphics card. I agree with them as once I was the same guy. It is a fact when you did not experience something you are not good at it. No doubt, choosing from many GPUs is confusing as we always have more options, it happens with most of the times.
But it doesn’t mean that we can’t choose the right graphics card. So without further ado, let’s jump straight into the reviews of the best gaming GPU 2019 that can help you out from the confusion.
It’s the best graphics card right now on the market for gaming so what if we pushed it the limit. EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 can apparently play a lot of modern games at 60fps (Frames per second). But how far above that can it go before it just quits.
Dell just launched the world’s 8k monitor with immersive resolutions. So how long will it be until we experience gaming on 8k visual screen? For this, we are using dynamics super-resolution features to run games 4k and above.
We run it at a high resolution and then scaled it down to 4k but the 1080p still has to deal with rendering that higher resolution. So we’ll see how far it can go before it’s like no more that’s it I can’t do it.
What is the state of gaming with the single most powerful best graphics card let’s find out !!
If you didn’t know dynamic super-resolution is a way to add some more fine quality to your game image. It’s sort of like anti-aliasing rendering a higher resolution image and downscaling to your monitors’ resolution which can smooth out pixelated parts of the game.
But at a cost of performance now the way to enable DSR in games is through GeForce Experience. Navigate to the game you want to play at higher res. Visit the custom settings and pick one of the DSR resolutions.
Since I’m playing on a 4k monitor there are only two available 5431 x 3055 and 7680 x 4320 which is actually the MAC supported a resolution on the 1080ti but if you are playing on a 1080p monitor you could enable DSR to render at any resolution above that and downscale back to 1080p.
The Pleasant Surprise
I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised by the 1080ti ability at resolutions over 4k. Particularly DOOM (Name of the game). It’s kind of crazy to think that a couple of year ago 4k was a super high resolution for the super-rich but thing continue as they are 8k game will be here in no time.
Well guys there you have it pretty much every title is playable at 4k arguably playable 5k depending on your standards and at 7680 x 4320 no so playable in fact Dooms straight up crashed before I could do my benchmark run twice although that was what the Vulcan API instead of OpenGL.
so looks like the most powerful best graphics card at the moment is not quite enough for 8k but dang it looks sharp though.
To be honest, I couldn’t even tell any difference between 4k and higher resolution and obviously playing super samples resolutions is not any kind of realistic scenario at this point in time but hey I wanted to see just what the 1080ti is capable of the end. Turns out it’s quite a bit now.
- Power consumption.
- Good temperatures on throttling.
- Fans turn off in idle.
- Back-plate included.
- More expensive than Founders Edition.
- 15% reduced efficiency vs Founders Edition.
- 2.5 slot design might not fit all cases.
I got GeForce GTX 1080 founder edition, another best graphics card on our list. Before some of you say Armando why didn’t you wait for the third-party manufacturers to come out with their graphics card?
It’s because I can buy this today and I don’t have to wait regardless. So I want to run some benchmarks and see how this best graphics card did in gaming. I’ve done some benchmarks so without further ado let’s get started.
Installation And Resolutions
So installation on this card was just like any other best graphics card one thing to note is it does only use one eight-pin connector for power. Now I did run into some driver issues and this seems to be like a common thing but once we figured it out I basically hanged towards the game’s testing.
So we recently reviewing GTX 1080 GPU and we want to put it through some benchmarks. Here we have an ultra-wide monitor so every single game that we’re going to play will be in 3440x1440p resolution. Starting off with one of my very favorite games of all times and its battlefield4.
Now on battlefield4, we were averaging around 90-100 frames per second and it was actually really good everything was maxed out in the setting. So all of that good stuff was all maxed out.
Testing On High Resolutions
So then I decided to pump it up a bit using the resolution scale and gave it 200%. That’s when the frame started to dip. It was doing around 38 or 40 frames/sec, which isn’t terrible. It still playable but I mean most people want 60 frames/sec or above.
After all of that, we decided to play a newer game that was just released. It’s doom and On doom, we were averaging around the same as battlefield4 all maxed out 3440 x 1440p resolution. It was doing 90 through 100 frames/sec, again really good for a modern game.
Aside from games we decided to run some benchmarks. First benchmarks that we ran we’re city bench art 15, where he scored a 128.88 frames/sec and then i decided to run unigine valley which scored a 107.8 frames/sec. No disrespect at all to the GTX 1080. No doubt, it’s the best graphics card but I was expecting a lot more out of it.
- Outrageous Performance leap over GTX 980
- Excellent Performance
- Hugely power efficient
- 4k and VR capabilities
- Best graphics card money can buy right now
- Fans don’t turn off in idle
- Doesn’t Blow away Radeon
I’m telling you right now this thing will kick ass so and then furthermore we actually cannot talk about more about the fame rate of the games because that’s what your guy lies the most and let’s get this thing.
So we are gonna unhook the GTX 1070 and the key features had nineteen twenty Cuda cores base cox be the 1506 megahertz boost clock speeds to 1683 megahertz had eight gigabytes ddr5 memory.
Instance manufacturer is by Nvidia is the founder edition and there are pros and con about this disco from the founder edition really and the one that one of the biggest calling this thing is to get very hot.
You need some kind of liquid cooling to play a certain game or you have to crank the fan very fast to get high to get just to cool things down with a bit now it does limit the SLI capability.
But they did the vetted estate that they just want to have one of best graphics card that actually can do everything on one instead of having like three or four or two depending on how you see it, but the pro it does support 4k gaming and it’s very power efficient.
There’s I don’t know it’s much to say about this and it’s a piece and there it’s very beautiful looking and best graphics card it’s standing looking so but the game-play itself and as you see in tomb raider you can actually like is pretty high compared to my GTX 950 there and now when we go to hitman it’s the same thing was a tomb raider.
It’s very crazy how it is like four times higher and a shove singularity benchmark it’s just in the main range 67 prime of a second I think that’s pretty good I don’t we played that much in doom it’s above 60 frames it’s like 90 frames an average that’s way good and you can crank it up depending set up the setting right there.
Lastly, in Fallout 4 there it was pretty good and it’s like medium range by 85 frames per second so that’s it about the review of this and this is a very solid piece of best graphics card here.
And I will definitely recommend you to go get it but do be warned that this thing can get hot I’m not sure if any third-party manufacturer gonna come up with the water cooling yet format for this so hopefully it really it does and this thing is beat GTX Titan my bad Titan x4 for sure. I’m actually gonna actually gonna play some game right now.
- Amazing Value
- Cutting Edge Features
- Perfect for 60fps 1440p gaming
- Easy Overclocked
- Power consumption is kept at check
- Premium for Founders Edition card is not worth it
When it was first announced as it promised we are a capable performance at 200 bucks $US or 250 for the 8 gig version sure enough when it launched it nailed that price to performance sweet spot killing it at 1080p and even 1440p in some games now after releasing the uber-powerful GTX 1080 and 1070.
Nvidia is aiming to hit AMD back with the GTX 1060 at a price and performance point slightly above the RX 480.
Now as you can see here we do not have the reference version of the GTX 1060 here but rather the MSI gaming X version of the card I went over the unique features of MSI’s gaming X custom cooler.
Now before we begin in earnest a note you may have heard about that whole MSI and Asus representing overclocked graphics card to reviewers debacle in case you didn’t catch it MSI and Asus both released statements saying that the best graphics card they send to reviewers are set to OC mode which favors performance over power efficiency while retail cards are set to game mode which strikes more of a balance between the two now.
See The Beauty
I left this card on OC mode since if you’re thinking about getting it for gaming which would be pretty much everyone. You’ll probably want to turn it to OC mode anyway.
So, just keep in mind as we look through these benchmarks that this is a custom 1060 so you can expect a little bit of a performance bump in this card compared to the reference model.
If you buy this card it comes with MSI’s gaming app so you can switch it between gaming mode and OC mode and power saver mode too so just so you know now all that said let’s look at the benchmarks we tested in ashes of the singularity GTA 5 rise of the Tomb Raider and The Witcher 3 as well.
Some synthetic benchmarks across the board in games we saw around 10 to 20 percent increases over the gig our X 480 we tested as part of our review which is more or less whatever 1x expected.
We saw the RX 480 actually beat 1060 in only one scenario, The Witcher 3 at 1080p for synthetics we tested in Unigine Valley and heaven as well. As 3D mark extreme ultra and the new direct x12 time spy benchmark again across the board we see 1060 performing just slightly ahead of the 480.
The Interesting Things
Interestingly our system pulled a little less power from the wall with 1060 about 40 Watts than it did with the RX 480 at around 60 watts but the 1060 system used more under load at 170.
Now that’s the whole system, not just a card so just you know, this may be due to the MSI gaming X having an 8 pin power connector. Rather than a 6 pin like the founders Edition now a big question gamers might be asking themselves is whether they should go for a GTX 970 or 980 instead.
Since those cards will no doubt be dropping in price and who knows what the stock situation is going to be for 1060 with the 1080 and 1070 they were out of stock pretty quick.
There’s a couple of things to note here before we draw big conclusions the GTX 1060 is more expensive than the RX 480 at 249 MSRP 299. If you want the founder’s edition, of course, you’re probably not going to find many customs 1060 s at 249 exactly this one.
For example, is 279 US and all the other ones are probably going to be around there somewhere for the extra cooler and they overclocked them a little bit so if you are comfortable paying a little bit more you can get that extra cushion of performance over top of the RX 480 at 1080p and sometimes 1440p.
it’s also important to note that 1060 has no SLI bridge so it does not support multi GPU setups. We’re not sure why Nvidia remove this as the 960 did support SLI except to maybe spare them the customer support work of trying to help users figure out all the problems with their SLI setups.
It’s strange to see Nvidia restricting SLI in the way they’ve done with 1080, 1070 and now 1060. While at the same time directs x12 is becoming prevalent with its cool multi-GPU feature.
I mean no games use that other than ashes singularity right now but they could in the future. Anyways so that that’s another plus for the RX 480 since it gives you the option to pop another card in your system to run crossfire down the line whether youth that’s important to you is up to you.
- Well suited to FHD or QHD gaming
- Cheaper than 6gb version
- overclocked out of the box
- Lacks SLI support
- Fewer shaders than 6 GB version
- Besides having VRam
While AMD’s our X 480 was supposed to be a VR for the types of product but what about the humble gamer without a bottomless trust fund bank account who just wants a solid 1080p experience.
Let’s have a look at NVidia’s latest offering for the blue-collar members of the PC master-race the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.
Currently featuring GTX 1050 Ti uses the new GP 107 GPU. This is a bit of a change from the GeForce 9 series where the gtx just ran a cut-down version of the gtx 960s GPU with the GTX 1050 Ti.
You get 768 CUDA cores with the 1392 megahertz on the boots clock as well as 4 gigabytes of ddr5 running on a 128-bit memory bus although these cards aren’t compatible with SLI.
You do get other GeForce 10 standard features like NVidia Ansel 4 as well as support for DirectX 12 and Vulcan for our benchmarks.
We got two flavors of the card the Zotac GTX 750ti mini and the MSI GTX 750ti both feature a modest factory overclock with the Zotac running at fourteen hundred and seventeen megahertz on the boost clock.
The MSI running just a bit higher at fourteen hundred and fifty-five. Both of these cards are small form-factor and don’t require any power beyond what the motherboard PCIe slot can provide in fact in our Crysis 3 load tests.
The Real Answer
Our system drew less than 160 watts from the wall in entirety while staying below about 60 ish degrees Celsius very interesting numbers. If you’re fighting size power or thermal limits in your currents system or are they to give a real answer.
We, of course, need to look at performance in real games so here’s how our GTX 1050Ti stacked up on our core i7 6850k test bench. We use this benchmark for all our testing to standardize our result.
The Less Power Card
This is a less powerful card that isn’t really aimed at users going for 1440p or 4k starting out with the after-mentioned Crysis 3. Which is still a punishing title after over three and a half years.
The 1050 Ti performed quite well for a card targeted squarely at the lower-middle end of the market it managed frame rates in the low 40s on very high presets while bumping things down to.
Delivers a buttery smooth experience at 71 frames second moving on to rising of the tomb raider then story was somewhat similar with the 1050 TI managing close to FPS on high setting.
High Setup Test
While very high will set you back about 10 frames DirectX 12, unfortunately, didn’t help matters costing us a few FBS. Actually which has been a recurring theme on the latest NVidia set of hardware the much-anticipated battlefield1 played very nicely with both of our eyes scoring in the 60s on ultra-setting performance.
On the highest preset in doom was similarly impressive with frame rates in the upper 60s but although these numbers are quite good for a budget-oriented 1080p focused card does that necessarily mean the card is a good value well.
That depends on how you define value if you go for strict dollars per frame analysis the gtx 750ti doesn’t exactly come out looking that good as you can see on this graph. However, many buyers looking for a graphics card in this price range mostly care about smooth 1080p performance at a respectable setting without any dunking around.
Right now the $140 GTX 1050 Ti is the cheapest card. It hits all these marks as it scored close to or above 60 FPS at high. All of our game and scored at least in the mid-40s. Even higher at the max presets right now its closest competitor on the red team the $100 Rx 460 can’t really say same.
But then bucks is a pretty big price delta at this end of the market however given that next step up performance-wise is the RX 470 at $470 at more it seems like the 1050 Ti has a nice little spot carved out for it for the folks that just want to come to possible to max out titles in 1080p for the least amount of money assuming that the actual prices line up with MSRP.
- Extremely efficient.
- Excellent price.
- HDMI2.0b, DisplayPort 1.4.
- Handles all games at full HD.
- Lacks SLI support.
- Fewer shaders than 6 GB version.
- Besides having VRAM.
So there you have it guys. Let us know which one is the best graphics card according to your point of view. Our editor’s choice is GeForce GTX 1080 Ti as it’s the most powerful of all.
Reviewing these beasts took us more time as we were testing each and everything to have better knowledge about the graphics card. Now it’s your turn. We would appreciate hearing from you as you’re also part of leopardots. Without your feedback, we couldn’t have written such awesome reviews.
