We have finally managed to get our hands on the Asus gaming monitor, the ASUS VG245H and spend several days using it and have finally decided to do a review.
ASUS VG245H Overview
The ASUS VG245H is a 24-inch1080p Gaming Monitor that has a blazing response time of 1MS and have a refresh rate of 75Hz. It also features AMD FreeSync support, impressive vibrant colors and the design has that feels of gaming DNA which goes with the flow of your gaming rig all this combined makes ASUS VG245H one of the best-budget gaming monitors in the $200 price range.
Starting off with the Design of ASUS VG245H, Asus has done a great job with this monitor. The design itself is really an impressive one, it has the feels of both a gaming monitor and the one that can be used in the office for professional work. It has a definite but subtle gamer geared appearance with angular lines and futuristic looks. The panel is flat and the bezels are thin makes it great for playing games and watching movies and your favorite shows.
The ASUS VG245H gaming monitor stand features an ergonomic design that can be tailored to suit just anyone specific viewing needs. The stand can pivot, tilt, swivel and is height adjustable with the varying combinations this versatility provides most folk will be able to get the right fit they need. Alongside with that, the monitor can also be wall mounted and in case if you are looking forward to using a dual or multi-monitor setup it can also be mounted on a stand.
The ASUS VG245H interface is simple and easy to navigate through. On the right side of the display, you will find the physical buttons just behind the back of the panel. You will have no problem using them. ASUS has made dedicated buttons for switching display modes which makes it easier for games to switch between different options and choose just the right option for them, also with just a few taps you can also activate ASUS premium games feature the ASUS GamePlus.
The port selection on the ASUS VG245H is a very solid one, you will find all the necessary ports that are important for a gaming monitor. It features two HDMI ports one VGA input port and two 3.5mm audio ports, one for output and one for input.
We were disappointed not to find a DVI port on the monitor but since it is 75Hz so the HDMI port won’t have any problem handling that refresh rate.
Also, two HDMI ports mean that alongside with owning a gaming PC if you own a console so you can have both of them plugged in at the same time and can easily switch between them using the menu on the interface.
When you are opting for a gaming monitor one thing is for sure, you won’t be using the onboard speakers for the ultimate gaming experience, they are just there so you won’t need any external speakers when you are playing multi-player games like FIFA, Tekken 7 etc with your friends and family. The ASUS VG245H has 2-watts speakers that are good enough to hear the in-game sound and music. As expected they were not really amazing but to say they were bad will also not be fair.
The games I tested to test the audio was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rise of the Tomb Raider, the Witcher 3 and Battlefield 1. The sound was loud and was clear enough to notice all the details. Hearing the footsteps and determining their direction in CS: GO was also not a problem but still for the ultimate gaming experience we suggest that you buy a gaming headset or use external headphones.
Color and Brightness
Keeping the industrial standard in mind we have taken great care of testing the color and brightness of the VG245H. The ASUS 1080p Gaming monitor scored a 252.7nits on our brightness test which is good and shows you won’t have any problem using it under your room light. Though if you compare it to it competitors then it is slightly less bright.
The color accuracy is great, it features vibrant colors which makes it great for playing games and watching movies. In our Delta-E color accuracy test, it scored 2.28 which is great as lower number shows more color accuracy.
ASUS VG245H Gaming Performance
Right out of the box the ASUS VG24G5 features some of the most amazing gaming features. The 24-inch Asus gaming monitor features an FHD resolution i.e. 1920 x 1080, which is the minimum yet the standard of gaming right now because of the fact that we have now 1440p and 4k gaming monitors.
VG2456 is Asus 1ms gaming monitor and with a refresh rate of 75Hz along with AMD FreeSync support, you can enjoy all your games on it. Whether it is a first-person shooter competitive game or single player, you will enjoy it a lot on this monitor.
For determining the ASUS VG245H gaming performance, we tested the Witcher 3 for open world genre, DiRT Rally for racing genre and DOTA 2, Overwatch and Battlefield 1 for multi-player competitive gaming genre.
The Witcher 3
We really enjoyed playing all the games, let start with the open world games. The Witcher 3 is an amazing game with a lot of colorful scenarios and beautiful world, the color accuracy and difference didn’t allow me to miss a single detail and motion blur wasn’t a problem at all because of AMD FreeSyn and 75Hz refresh rate.
DiRT Rally is known for an immersive racing experience which means you need a good monitor with a higher refresh rate to enjoy to its full potential. But the ASUS 1ms gaming monitor doesn’t have any problem handling it alongside with AMD FreeSync support the game seems as smooth as it would be on a 120Hz monitor.
Dota 2 and Overwatch
Dota 2 is a multiple online battle arena game, means it doesn’t need blazing fast refresh rates but during intense battle scenarios things can mix up and color accuracy and fast response time can really help you differ between things and have the upper hand. ASUS VG24H gaming monitor handles it well. Even in Overwatch, the things were pretty smooth and we landed perfect headshots.
BF1 is a competitive First-person game which means you need higher refresh rates but 120Hz and 144Hz gaming monitors aren’t cheap but even with ASUS AMD FreeSync monitor and 75Hz refresh rate the things were pretty smooth and we didn’t notice any type of lag.
Same like other ASUS products the VG245H also have those ASUS special product features.
First of all, let’s talk about the GameVisual presets which this monitor come with. All the GameVisual presets are based on the different genre of game which will help you enjoy those specific genre game to their full. But everyone has their own and it’s not necessary that you will go with the pre-installed preset but based on our experience and use they can be really great in some games.
The settings which we used the most was the scenery mode as it offered really vibrant and rich colors were was really enjoyable in open-world games if you looking forward to playing FPS games with little or no input lag and real-time accuracy then the FPS setting will really help you achieve that. Along with it, Movies and shows were also very enjoyable due to the cinema mode which offered crisp colors and deep blacks.
Though if none of the settings suits you, you can always opt for custom settings and can save it and use it.
The Asus VG245H comes with AMD FreeSync support which is variable refresh rate technology from AMD. AMD FreeSync help reduce screen-tearing and gives you the feel of smooth performance when equipped with AMD graphics card. ASUS VG245H is the best value AMD FreeSync monitor because at a price point of $200 it is really difficult to find such a monitor.
Without Doubt, ASUG VG245H is the best gaming monitor under $200. The ASUS 24-inch gaming monitor is 1080p display with blazing fast 1ms response time and on top of that, it has a refresh rate of 75Hz and also supports AMD FreeSync technology. If you are looking for higher refresh rate monitor then the VG245H isn’t for you but if you are looking for best budget gaming monitor then you won’t find a better one than the ASUS VG245H.
